If you have acne, it is likely that you will do whatever it takes to help get rid of it. There are many treatment options but one that is most likely the least known may be birth control pills.

There are many reasons to choose birth control pills to treat your acne if you are capable of taking it. For one, you can use it to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. How great is it to solve two problems with one pill? It can truly be a great way to deal with both.

Also, you may already be taking birth control pills and having it for an acne treatment is just an added benefit to help you. So, when taking these pills, you can get help with your acnes as well.

On the flip side, women who do take the birth control pill and have an increase in acne should be certain to talk to their doctor. Different types of oral contraception have different effect on different women, so you may need to get the dosage adjusted to help you with your acne.

If you do choose to take birth control pills to assist with acne, you should know that several brands may be out there but only Ortho Tri-cyclen has been approved by the FDA for treatment of acne.

So, if you make the decision to take birth control pills to help with acne, the most important thing you may actually do is discuss this with your doctor. They can give you the best advice when it comes to the pros and cons of taking this drug and how it may affect you personally based upon your medical history. It is imperative that a doctor guide you with this decision.

Various Forms of Acne

The most important thing that you need to know about acne is that, it has got various forms. Once you know about the forms, it helps you in fighting acne easily. Acne can be broadly categorized into two classes, which are: Inflammatory Acne and Non-Inflammatory Acne. Do you know that all acne problems have one basic root? An elaborated hair follicle named comedo that cannot be seen with the naked eyes, lies beneath the surface of the skin. It is stuffed with oil and bacteria. As the production of oil increases, the bacteria that is held within comedo grows. When the white blood cells attack these bacteria, the surrounding skin becomes red due to inflammation, resulting in acne.

Types of Inflammatory Acne

There are four types of Inflammatory Acne, which are as follows:

Acne conglobata: Apart from nodules and pustules, this rare type of acne can result in massive bacterial infection. It takes place mostly on the chest, back, and buttocks of a person.

Papule: This type of acne is mild that results in a small pinkish hump on the skin of a person.

Nodule or Cyst: It deeply affects the skin. They are pus-filled and can leave marks behind. This problem can continue for a few weeks or months even. They are large in size and are sometimes quite painful.

Pustules: They are small but are pus-filled and may be a bit reddish at the base with a whitish or yellowish center. They are round in shape and do not have much bacteria in them. These fatty free acids result in inflammation.

Types of Non-Inflammatory Acne

Non-Inflammatory Acne has two types, which are:

Open comedo or blackhead: An enlarged plug forcibly coming out of the skin is known as an open comedo or blackhead. The buildup of melanin results in the dark color of the plug.

Closed comedo or whitehead: Acne is called a closed comedo or whitehead when the blocked follicle lurks below the skin surface. As they appear on the skin they are visible as small humps that are a bit whitish.

Now, it will be easier for you to get rid of acne!

Accutane

Accutane is a drug used to treat severe acne that has been considered untreatable by other means, including antibiotics. Accutane must be prescribed by a dermatologist, and requires monthly check ups while on the treatment. You are required to sign a waiver form indicating you have read and understand all of the major possible side effects of the drug before a dermatologist will even write the prescription. Doctors will not prescribe Accutane if there is a history of depression or mental health problems in your family.

Side Effects

One of the major risks when taking Accutane is the possibility of liver failure. Accutane is prescribed in one month doses, and you are required to get a monthly blood test to prove that the drug is not damaging your liver before your doctor will further prescribe the treatment. It is mandatory for women taking Accutane to also be on a form of oral contraception, as there is a major risk of birth defects (deformed babies), premature births, and death in babies if the person becomes pregnant anytime during treatment, or within 6 months of completing treatment. Another major risk when taking Accutane is the possibility of developing serious mental health problems. Some patients have been known to develop depression, including thoughts of suicide, during treatment or soon after completing treatment.

Some of the most common side effects include dry, chafing skin, severely chapped lips, dry eye syndrome, dry nasal passageways, hair loss, extreme fatigue, and headaches. While most of these side effects will subside once treatment is completed, others may not, such as hair loss.

Some of the more severe side effects include serious brain problems, stomach problems, bone and muscle problems, hearing and vision problems, lipid (fats and cholesterol in blood) problems, and other serious problems.

Serious Health Warning

There are several things you simply CANNOT do when you are taking Accutane or within 6 months of completing treatment. You cannot become pregnant, breastfeed a child, take a Vitamin A supplement, use birth control pills that do not contain estrogen, and you absolutely cannot give blood.

Acne Scar Treatment

Acne is tough for all sufferers, and it’s little comfort to know that everyone gets it. Scars from acne leaving marks to remind you can be as frustrating as the pimples you endured. For many people the stigma of this scarring can be one of the hardest apects of acne to deal with. Is there anything you can do to help heal your skin while covering evidence of the acne scars?

Thankfully there are a variety of treatments available to you to help reduce the visible signs of acne scarring and the discoloration of skin pigment that can accompany it.

To understand scars, you need to understand the fundamentals of acne. Acne refers to pimples caused when the hair follicles (or “pores”) on the skin become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. A plugged follicle is the perfect place for bacteria to grow and create the red and pus-filled red bumps. Hormonal changes during the teen years often cause increased oil production that contributes to the problem. Acne comes in different forms:

Mild acne, which refers to the whiteheads or blackheads that most of us get at various times

Moderately severe acne, which includes red inflamed pimples and red pimples with white centers.

Severe acne, which causes nodules – painful, pus-filled cysts or lumps – to appear under the skin

To combat the scars that can be caused by the above listed types of acne we strongly endorse ZENMED Scar Treatment Kit. This consists of a two-step treatment. Firstly the affected area is exfoliated to remove the outermost layer of skin (dead or dying skin cells). This then prepares the skin for the ZENMED™ Skin Eraser to penetrate easier and effectively lighten and fade dark spots, freckles, and hyper pigmentation. This solution is the quickest way to remove imperfections without the bother of salons, expensive prescriptions or reconstructive methods. Use only 2-3 times a week.

In one simple 5 minute application, you will notice:

Fine lines diminish, skin appears younger

Skin appears glowing and fresh

Fine bumps disappear and skin surface is more even and smooth

After 3-4 treatments:

Flaws such as acne scars and hyper pigmentation gradually diminish

Collagen levels are increased causing skin to look and feel more plump and alive

Combination skin is balanced, dry rough patches are gone

After 8-10 treatments:

Appearance of wrinkles is minimized

Minor imperfections are diminished

Acne scars appear lighter and less visible

Acne scar removal

Zenmed have developed the in home dual action solution for scarring based on techniques used by dermatologists and aestheticians the world over.

ZENMED™ MicroDermabrasion Complex – The powerhouse of this system is a professional-grade blend of exfoliating ingredients. These fine-milled ingredients are then punctuated with all-natural extracts of Comfrey and Green Tea. This combination creates a gentle yet effective peeling action on the outer surface of the skin.

ZENMED™ Skin Eraser – A medicated, well-known and established skin lightening agent is blended into a natural base of healing Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Cucumber. Only needs to be applied to the affected areas to penetrate the damaged skin tissue and restore it to normalcy.

Rosacea: A Disease Confused with Acne

Have you heard about Rosacea? Well, this is a skin disease that is very often confused with acne and people treat it with acne medications. Although Rosacea is not totally curable, however the problem can be treated well. It is always better to consult a dermatologist if you think that you are unable to get any positive result following treatments for acne. This should immediately give you a bit of push in understanding that it is not acne but something else that you are not aware of.

Tread carefully, as Rosacea can cause permanent skin damage. Hence, it is very important to treat it as soon as you can.

The problem of Rosacea arises in adults above 30 years. It is found in a large number of Caucasians. A reddish tinge develops on the skin, which ultimately swells up and leads to papules and pustules that can usually be seen in acne affected people. It is not still known that what leads to Rosacea, but the similarity of it with acne leads people to treat it with acne relieving products and medicines.

Though these acne medicines might provide some temporary relief, there are treatments especially for Rosacea. If you are aware of the fact that it is not acne but Rosacea, then you can go for Rosacea treatments to get better relief.

For fighting Rosacea, there are several treatments. These include:

Pulsed dye laser treatment: It reduces the inflammation of telangiectases or broken blood vessels.

Metronidazole: Topical antifungal agents

Gentle cleanser: It must be free from alcohol and exfoliating grains.

Proper treatments for Rosacea can help you to do away with the problem. So, if your skin blushes or flushes, know that it is Rosacea and not acne. One must take good care of their diet, as a particular food habit or lifestyle can lead to flushes on your skin. These may include taking spicy food, using alcohol-based skin products, consuming alcohol, exposure to sunlight, chocolate, hot beverages, cold winds, and exercise.

Vic Narurkarm MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology (University of California) once said, “Blood vessels in people with Rosacea seem to dilate easily, causing a flushing response to any number of triggering factors. After years of frequent dilation, it’s thought that the blood vessels ‘wear out’ and stay dilated permanently.”

With today’s advances in medicine you have the best options ever available to treat your acne. Essential to relieving your sensitive skin is finding the best treatment available to get rid of acne lesions and prevent reoccurring scarring lies. This process may take some commitment in realizing that:

Complete resolution of the problem takes time.

Acne treatment that works for one person may not work for another.

A dermatologist’s help may be required.

Resolution takes time. Its unrealistic to expect “overnight” results, and products advertising this may capture the attention of acne sufferers but fail to deliver. On average, 6 to 8 weeks are needed to see results. Continued treatment is needed to keep acne from re-appearing.

What helps clear on acne sufferer’s skin may not work for another for numerous reasons. Firstly here are various types of acne that may be caused by many factors. A person’s skin type, age and the kind of lesions present can also have an effect on the success of any given treatment.

A dermatologist’s or skin care professional’s help may be required. So many factors affect your skin including the severity of the acne, types of lesions present, co-existing conditions, as well as the patient’s age, skin type, lifestyle and motivation. A professional can help guide you in the right direction and keep you motivated on the path to recovery.

Laser resurfacing also removes skin surfaces. The treatment method uses a highly concentrated light beam (laser) to burn off skin cells.

Some of the acids used for acne treatment are used as acid peels to remove scar tissue. It takes about a week for the skin to heal after these treatments, and there is often reddening and discomfort during the healing process.

Another scar removal approach involves collagen injections. Collagen, a protein, is a natural component of human tissue. When collagen is injected underneath the scar, it raises it to the level of the surrounding skin. This restores a normal appearance. Collagen breaks down over time, and the treatment may have to be repeated periodically.

Cultured autologous fibroblasts are living cells that the dermatologist injects under the patient’s skin. These cells, taken from other parts of the patient’s body, are grown in a laboratory culture until there are enough of them for the procedure. Once in place, they build up under the scars and raise them to the surface. Each area is injected once every 2 weeks for a total of three injections. Many patients experience long-term improvement.

Acne Treatment

The main goals of acne treatment are to prevent scarring, reduce the number of painful lesions, and minimize the stress and embarrassment related to the condition. The basic principle of skin care is to wash the affected area no more than one to two times per day

Healthcare practitioners will recommend topical medications as their first choice for treating acne. These are designed to gently remove top layer of skin (exfoliate). As well as this function they also are designed as to reduce clumping of cells in the follicles, production of oil and bacteria, and inflammation if the skin. Additionally, facial steaming is valuable for exfoliation as well. Alternative remedies for acne include herbal treatments or homeopathy. Expect to use medications and/or alternative remedies for at least 6 to 8 weeks before seeing a noticeable improvement in symptoms. Staying positive, though sometimes difficult is key to achieving your goals through treatment.

Millions of people suffer with acne day after day and spend hundreds of dollars if not more each year to get rid of it. However, studies have shown that there may be a very effective treatment that may no be very expensive to use on a daily basis.

Studies have shown that a low dose of birth control pills can be a great treatment for acne. So, the next time, you are looking to effectively reduce your pimples, you may want to give birth control a try. If you have a good lifestyle and medical history, you can put birth control to use to allow you to solve two problems at the same time.

Many people may question how this can be possible. So, you should take a look at the hormones in the body. These can be increased at times and thus can cause increased oil production. This is generally right before a woman has her period and this can eplain why women have acne problems as a symptom of PMS.

It is now official that low dosage birth control pills can decrease the production of these oils. This can lead to controlling the breakout in a great way. The use of birth control pills has be something many women have suspected for some time to help control an onset of acne very effectively.

So, if you are looking for a great way to reduce you acne and help you with birth control issues, this one pill may be the only one you need to do both.

Of course, as with any medication, you should discuss it with your doctor beforehand and they can give you the best advice based on your medical history as if this will be advantageous for you as well.
